This new directive fully prohibits entry for citizens from 12 countries and imposes partial restrictions on travelers from seven additional nations.
Countries with Full Entry Bans (12 nations)
Citizens from the following countries are completely barred from entering the United States under any visa category:
• Afghanistan
• Iran
• Libya
• Somalia
• Sudan
• Yemen
• Syria
• North Korea
• Cuba
• Venezuela
• Bhutan
• Myanmar.
Countries with Partial Restrictions (7 nations)
The following countries face increased restrictions, which may include limitations on certain visa categories and enhanced screening procedures:
• Belarus
• Eritrea
• Haiti
• Laos
• Pakistan
• Russia
• Sierra Leone
These measures were said to have ben introduced following a terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, involving an Egyptian national who had overstayed a tourist visa. Although Egypt is not on the list, and why not? the incident prompted the administration to reassess entry protocols from countries deemed to have inadequate security screening and high visa overstay rates. If what the administration is saying is right, Egypt of all countries should be on the list, because the fact point at the Egyptian nation who triggered this reassessment.
Exemptions to the ban include lawful permanent residents, individuals with existing valid visas, dual nationals traveling on a passport from a non-restricted country, and athletes participating in major international sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics.
The executive order has faced criticism from civil rights organizations and international communities, with concerns about its impact on families, students, and professionals. Legal challenges are anticipated, though the administration asserts that the measures are necessary for national security.
